MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Africa is said to be losing approximately 88.6 billion dollars annually through illicit financial flows.
The massive leakage significantly outweighs the average $48 billion the continent received in official development assistance.
These figures were contained in the Liberia Revenue Authority’s (LRA) Commissioner General, Dorbor Jallah’s presentation at the ongoing asset recovery and illicit financial flow training in Monrovia.
Commissioner Jallah quotes African Development Bank’s 2025 Economic Outlook as estimating that in 2022 alone, Africa lost roughly $587 billion dollars.
The LRA Commissioner General attributed the loss to multinational profit shifting, corruption, mispricing of African risk, and financial leakages.
