MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Witness Protection Agency (WPA) is calling for stronger protection for victims, witnesses, and whistleblowers, saying people must be able to speak the truth without fear.

Speaking at a one-day judicial workshop on Thursday, September 17, 2026, WPA Director Teklo Maxwell Grigsby said the event is intended to strengthen victim-centered and inclusive transitional justice in Liberia.

According to him, the Witness Protection and Whistleblower Acts, enacted in 2021, provide the legal basis for protecting witnesses and whistleblowers before, during, and after judicial proceedings.

Atty. Grigsby said effective witness protection is critical as Liberia advances its transitional justice and anti-corruption efforts, particularly with the planned War and Economic Crimes Court.

The workshop, organized in collaboration with OHCHR and supported by the EU, brings together justice, security, human rights, and civil society actors, with the goal of strengthening cooperation and developing a protection system that promotes justice and accountability.
