Gov’t of Liberia Officially Launches Nat’l Accelerated Adult Literacy Program

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Education, has officially launched the National Accelerated Adult Literacy Program to help adults improve their reading, writing, and numeracy skills.

The launch took place on September 8, 2026, as Liberia joined the international community in observing World Literacy Day.

The program is designed to provide adults with practical skills needed for work, family responsibilities, business and everyday life.

Information Minister Jerolinmek Piah says the initiative will create opportunities for adults who did not have access to formal education or need additional support to strengthen their basic literacy skills.

The government believes the program forms part of Liberia’s broader efforts to expand educational opportunities and empower citizens through lifelong learning.
