MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government has reassured the public that criminal cases arising from its ongoing anti-drug campaign are supported by strong evidence and will undergo judicial Scrutiny.
Speaking at the Ministry of Information’s regular press briefing on Tuesday, Information Minister Jerolinmek Piah said the campaign against illicit drugs should not be seen as political targeting.
He said:” The government recognizes that cases are currently being handled through the judicial process, adding that public discussions should not interfere with ongoing proceedings”.
Minister Piah, however, noted that the government has a responsibility to clarify issues when individuals or institutions spread information that authorities believe is false and misleading.
The information minister maintained that the government will continue its fight against illicit drugs, while ensuring all accused individuals are given due process under Liberian law.
