Vice President Koung Urges Unity Party Legislative Caucus Members…

GBARNGA, BONG COUNTY, LIBERIA-The Vice President of Liberia, Jeremiah Koung, is urging members of the Unity Party (UP) Legislative Caucus to put aside political differences and focus on maintaining peace, stability, and national development.

Speaking at the UP Legislative Caucus Strategic Retreat in Gbarnga, Bong County, Vice President Koung said:” Lawmakers have a responsibility to protect the interests of the Liberian people, and your election demonstrates the trust placed in you by thousands of citizens”.

The Vice President stressed that each lawmaker successfully convinced tens of thousands of citizens to entrust them with representation at the national level.

He said:” Lawmakers, along with the President and Vice President, form a group of 105 elected leaders entrusted with the authority to steer the affairs of the country, and must therefore work together to keep Liberia stable, safe, and prosperous”.

Vice President Koung further challenged the lawmakers to learn from their individual experiences and scars, use those lessons to strengthen national unity, and remain focused on improving the lives of the Liberian people.

At the same time, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Richard Koon, said the retreat aims to strengthen efforts to secure the re-election of President Joseph Boakai and Vice President Jeremiah Koung in the 2029 elections.

Speaker Koon said:” The retreat provides an opportunity for members of the governing Alliance in the National Legislature to assess their political performance, strengthen coordination, and develop strategies to ensure that the administration goes for another term”.

He emphasized that the UP Alliance must remain united and organized if it is to successfully defend the administration’s record and convince Liberians to renew its mandate.

According to him, legislative coordination will be critical to achieving the alliance’s political objectives.

The retreat has brought together lawmakers and key members of the Unity Party Alliance for discussions on political strategy, governance, legislative priorities, and the future direction of the Alliance.

For his part, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Thomas Fallah, has called on the ruling establishment to take the interest of the National Independent Movement for Boakai (NIMBO) seriously in the decision-making process of the ruling party.

Deputy Speaker Fallah stressed that NIMBO should be considered an integral part of whatever the ruling party undertakes, particularly as the political establishment works to strengthen its structure and future electoral prospects.

He noted that the movement has a significant role to play and should not be treated as an ordinary political group or an entity outside the establishment’s broader political framework.

He urged the leadership of the ruling establishment to ensure that NIMBO is adequately represented and consulted on key political decisions, arguing that meaningful inclusion could strengthen unity and cooperation within the governing coalition.
