MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia has donated a brand-new double-cabin pickup to the Liberia College of Physicians and Surgeons to strengthen postgraduate specialist medical training in the country.

The vehicle was presented to the College as part of the government’s efforts to strengthen Liberia’s health system through investment in medical education and specialist training.

The Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Augustine Ngafuan, said the donation will enhance the operational capacity of the college, particularly in implementing and supervising postgraduate residency training programs.

Minister Ngafuan, in a statement, said strengthening specialist training locally could help reduce the need for Liberians to seek specialist medical care and training outside the country, while contributing to a stronger and more sustainable national health system.

Receiving the vehicle, the College’s President, Pro. John Mulbah, thanked the government for the support, describing the donation as an investment in the future of Liberia’s healthcare system.

The release further noted that since its launch in 2013, the College has trained 166 medical specialists who are contributing to healthcare delivery in Liberia and beyond, and offers postgraduate residency training in several medical specialties.
