MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Witness Protection Agency, in collaboration with the Justice Ministry, is engaging relevant committees of the National Legislature on proposed amendments to Liberia’s Witness Protection and Whistleblower Acts.

The one-day legislative engagement held on Thursday in Monrovia focused on proposed amendments to the Witness Protection Act of 2021 and the Whistleblower Act of 2021.

Speaking at the engagement, Witness Protection Agency Director General, Atty. Teklo Grisby, said: The dialogue was intended to strengthen the legal and institutional mechanisms for protecting witnesses, whistleblowers and victims who play a critical role in exposing corruption and supporting the justice system”.

Atty. Grisby noted that the initiative is also intended to advance Liberia’s anti-corruption efforts and transitional justice commitments by ensuring individuals who provide information to authorities can receive adequate protection.

The one-day engagement was held under the theme: “Strengthening Protection Mechanisms for Witnesses, Whistleblowers, and Victims: Advancing Liberia’s Anti-Corruption and Transitional Justice Commitments.”

Also speaking, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Richard Koon, has assured the Witness Protection Agency that the House will give prompt and thorough consideration to proposed amendments to Liberia’s Witness Protection and Whistleblower Acts.

Speaker Koon says once formally submitted, the proposed legislation will receive the attention of the relevant committees of the House in keeping with established legislative procedures.

He also noted that his office will work with the Office of the President Pro Tempore of the Liberian Senate to ensure the measures are considered in an orderly and coordinated manner by the National Legislature.

Speaker Koon made the assurance on Thursday, September 3, 2026, in Monrovia at a one-day legislative engagement on proposed amendments to the Witness Protection Act of 2021 and the Whistleblower Act of 2021.

The engagement was organized by the Witness Protection Agency in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice to address gaps in Liberia’s legal framework for protecting witnesses and whistleblowers.
