MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) is set to host the first-ever National Non-Performing Loans Resolution Conference in Monrovia.
The three-day conference, scheduled for September 9 to 11, will bring together key stakeholders to address Liberia’s growing portfolio of non-performing loans and its impacts on borrowers and businesses.
The Senior Technical Advisor to the CBL Executive Governor, Musa Dukuly, says the conference will unlock economic opportunities and restore confidence in the Financial Sector.
Dukuly says Liberia’s non-performing loan portfolio currently stands at more than 12 percent, a situation he describes as deeply troubling.
He said:” Resolving the issue will create an enabling environment for businesses to access finance, while restoring the Bank’s confidence in lending to the Private Sector.
At the same time, the CBL says the upcoming conference is critical to advancing economic growth, particularly for actors in the Liberian Private Sector.
The organizing Chairman of the conference, Musa Dukuly, says the gathering will help rebuild confidence and trust in Liberia’s Banking Sector.
President Joseph Boakai is expected to open the conference officially.
Dukuly said:” The CBL has a moral responsibility to promote financial stability, while ensuring greater access to credit and financing for businesses”.
Speaking to ELBC on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, the CBL official said the conference will bring together key stakeholders from the Public and Private Sectors to explore ways of improving access to credit, responsible lending, and promoting timely loan payment.
