MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Supreme Court of Liberia will, on Thursday, hand down opinions in fifty-five cases.

On Thursday, August 27, 2026, thirty opinions will be handed down, while twenty-five opinions will be handed down on Friday, August 28.

One of the landmark cases in Thursday’s ruling is about former Forestry Development Authority (FDA) boss Moses Wongbay, who was found guilty in 2015 of criminal charges at the lower court for six million US Dollars, and was sentenced to five years, with a restitution of said amount.

Wongbay’s lawyers took an appeal of the ruling from Judge Peter Gbeneweleh, who was then a judge at Criminal Court “C,” to the Supreme Court.

On Friday, August 28, the arson case involving former Speaker Fonati Koffa and others will be heard with a ruling.

Koffa’s legal team took flight to the Supreme Court based on Judge Roosevelt Willie’s ruling, where he disbanded the jurors because they were compromised.

Chief Justice Yamie Gbeisay will deliver the ruling.

Meanwhile, the Court will, on Friday, close for its March Term to resume business on the Second Monday. The Supreme Court opens twice a year in its March and October Terms.
