MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberia’s Vice President Jeremiah Koung is expected to officiate the formal launch of a High-Level Inter-Ministerial Committee on decentralization in Monrovia.
The launch will take place during a two-day High-Level Policy Dialogue on Local Governance and Decentralization.
The dialogue, which runs from Wednesday, August 26 to Thursday, August 27, 2026, is expected to be convened by the Governance Commission.
A statement from the Ministry of Local Government says the gathering aims to accelerate the devolution of administrative, political, and fiscal powers mandated under the Local Government Act of 2018.
The dialogue is expected to produce a Standardized Devolution Action Plan mapping for each transfer of authority.
It will also produce immediate steps toward reduced transaction costs for citizens and a signed Inter-Ministerial Devolution Resolution committing participating MACs to hand over specific authorities to County Service Centers under the county government leadership within an agreed time-frame.
