MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberian Revenue Authority (LRA) has projected one billion US Dollars in domestic revenue collection in the coming weeks.
According to the institution, the funds would help address national needs.
The LRA Commissioner General, Dorbor Jallah, said:” The collection would only be meaningful if it is translated into tangible benefits for citizens”.
Commissioner Jallah attributed the projection to taxpayers who had honored their obligations and the foresight of LRA staff.
He made the remarks on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at the official launch of the LRA’s Corporate Strategic Plan in Congo Town.
Commissioner Jallah noted that the strategy would promote voluntary compliance, strengthen governance institutions, and harness technology in revenue administration.
For his part, the Director General of the Cabinet, Nathaniel Kwabo, has called for stronger efforts to mobilize domestic resources.
Kwabo said Liberia has enough to finance its development, noting that the LRA has demonstrated that more resources could be raised locally to support national priorities.
He pointed to real estate as an area with significant potential, urging citizens to work with the LRA to improve collections from the sector.
The Director General of the Cabinet then emphasized the importance of strategic plans in government institutions, noting that they help set targets, manage resources and improve performance.
Also speaking, the Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Augustine Ngafuan, has launched the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) FIVE-YEAR Corporate Strategic Plan, with a focus on strengthening domestic revenue mobilization.
Minister Ngafuan said:” Before the launch, Liberia was on course to cross the one-billion-dollar revenue mark by September, describing the projected milestone as an achievement for the Liberian people”.
Minister Ngafuan said the new plan would help sustain the revenue gains, while supporting the country’s fiscal needs.
He assured the LRA of continued backing from the Ministry of Finance, while urging the National Legislature and Judiciary to support efforts to protect government revenue.
The finance minister also disclosed that preparations for the 2027 National Budget were underway, with expenditure requests reaching about 1.9 billion dollars.
