MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberia Telecommunication Authority (LTA) has signed new Satellite Communications Guidelines, setting a regulatory framework for satellite communications services in Liberia.
The LTA Chairman, Clarence Massaquoi, says the guidelines are intended to empower citizens and expand digital connectivity across the country.
According to Chairman Massaquoi, the Authority will regulate satellite services to ensure they operate in the public interest.
He says:” The new framework is expected to support the development of a more accessible telecommunications infrastructure sector”.
The LTA Chairman also says the entity is working to extend mobile coverage to rural communities, particularly areas that remain underserved by existing networks.
The Authority says the guidelines form part of a broader effort to strengthen Liberia’s digital connectivity and ensure wider access to communications services.
Meanwhile, Post and Telecommunications Minister, Sekou Kromah, has described satellite technology as crucial to bridging Liberia’s connectivity gaps, especially in rural and underserved communities.
According to Minister Kromah, the technology could support education, healthcare, government services, businesses, and disaster response.
He noted that the newly adopted Satellite Communication Guidelines would provide a clear framework for satellite services, while promoting responsible use of spectrum and satellite resources.
Minister Kromah pointed out that effective regulation would protect consumers, ensure compliance with national laws, and boost confidence among investors and service providers.
The Minister indicated that the ministry will continue working with the Liberia Telecommunications Authority and its partners to expand connectivity and promote innovation across Liberia.
