Mines & Energy Ministry Trains Licensed Gold Dealers, Brokers

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Ministry of Mines and Energy, through its Office of Precious Minerals, has trained licensed gold dealers and brokers on the use of gold traceability forms.

The two-part training held at the Ministry’s central office in Monrovia is part of efforts to strengthen transparency, accountability, and responsible sourcing in Liberia’s gold sector.

The training focused on proper documentation and record-keeping throughout the gold supply chain, from production and purchase to transportation and export.

According to a Mines and Energy release, the Director of the Office of Precious Minerals, Rebecca Fallah, stressed the importance of the traceability system in establishing a reliable chain of custody for gold traded in Liberia.

Meanwhile, the Ministry says the initiative is intended to formalize the gold trade, improve government oversight and build confidence in Liberia’s mineral sector.

At the same time, the ministry has warned gold dealers and brokers to strictly comply with Liberia’s mineral trading and documentation requirements.

The warning was issued during a two-day training organized by the Ministry’s Office of Precious Minerals to strengthen compliance with the country’s Gold Traceability System.

The release noted that dealers and brokers were cautioned against common documentation errors, including blank fields, missing signatures, inaccurate weights, inconsistent information and late submission of forms.

Participants were also reminded that gold transactions must be properly documented, with information on production, purchase, transportation and export accurately recorded.

Assistant Mines and Energy Minister, Sumo Momolu, says the ministry remains committed to sanitizing the minerals sector and ensuring that gold traded in Liberia can be accounted for from production through to export.
