Defense Minister George Says Women’s Participation in Security a Nat’l Priority

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Defense Minister Geraldine George says the participation of women in the security sector remains a national priority.

According to Minister George, sustainable peace is best achieved when women and men work together as equal partners.

The Liberian Defense Minister made the remarks on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at the launch of the Report on the Legacy and contributions of India’s All-Women Police Unit, in Monrovia.

She noted that the deployment of India’s all-women Unit to Liberia was significant because it demonstrates the vital role women play in maintaining peace, protecting communities, strengthening public confidence and supporting post-conflict recovery.

Minister George highlighted that Liberia emerged from a devastating civil conflict with the enormous task of rebuilding its institutions and restoring public trust in the security sector.
