MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Superintendent of the Monrovia Consolidated School System (MCSS) says additional funding has been secured to modernize several MCSS schools.
Dr. Augurie Stevens named the Matilda Newport Junior High School, Boatswain High School, and G.W. Gibson High School as some of the key institutions expected to be modernized.
Dr. Stevens also disclosed plans to upgrade the N.V. Massaquoi Elementary and Junior High School in West Point to a senior high level, while an annex is being constructed at Pipeline Public School in Paynesville City.
Speaking at the Ministry of Information on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, Dr. Stevens stressed that the MCSS Central Office is also undergoing renovation, including re-roofing, fence rehabilitation, and the construction of a modern cafeteria.
She disclosed that funding has been secured to transition more than 459 volunteer teachers onto the government’s payroll, subject to personnel verification.
At the same time, the MCSS disclosed that it is expanding opportunities for students through scholarships and other educational programs.
The MCSS Superintendent said funding has been secured to cover tuition and flight tickets for nineteen scholarship recipients.
She also said:” Eleven MCSS students have received International Baccalaureate Scholarships through the Education Ministry, and are currently studying at Our Lady of Grace International School”.
Dr. Augurie indicated that the MCSS has established a gender office to address gender and children-related concerns, including drug and substance abuse.
