MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Minister of Information, Jerolinmek Piah, says the Government of Liberia’s fight against drugs will be guided by established laws and investigative standards.

Minister Piah said:” Authorities will ensure that investigations produce evidence enough to withstand judicial scrutiny in the court of law, and anyone accused of involvement in the illegal drug trade must be investigated properly and prosecuted based on credible evidence”.

The information minister said the ongoing investigation will have no boundaries, and could involve current and former government officials, private citizens, and foreign nationals.

He called on Liberians and politicians to support the government’s fight against drugs and do away with politicizing the situation.

At the same time, Minister Piah says the situation at the Sorlumba point of entry in Lofa County is currently calm and stable, following tensions between Liberian and Guinean security personnel.

Minister Piah said the tension developed at a buffer zone over the location of checkpoints involving Guinean military personnel and Liberia’s joint security forces.

He said a high-level Guinean delegation and Liberian security officials met at the buffer zone on August 10, 2026, to address the situation.

Minister Piah also said the National Security Council is closely monitoring the situation and that appropriate diplomatic measures are being pursued to ensure a peaceful resolution.

Meanwhile, the information minister says the ongoing investigation into the drug bust has uncovered an organized and well-funded narcotic trafficking network.

Minister Piah said the investigations into the 19-million and 317-million drug cases remain active, with several individuals arrested and charged, while indictments are being prepared.

According to him, some of those arrested or charged previously served in government, with others already dismissed or suspended from their positions.
