Nat’l Labor Court Judge Upholds Ruling in Favor of Nat’l Teachers Asso. Sec. Gen.

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Judge of the National Labor Court of Montserrado County, Joseph Kollie, has upheld a ruling rendered in favor of the Secretary General of the National Teachers Association of Liberia (NTAL).

The ruling of the Labor Ministry Hearing Officer at the Labor Standard Division, Cyrus Wehyee, instructed the leadership of the NTAL to pay his retroactive salary.

According to the document, the petitioners sought to file an appeal to the Court of Montserrado County concerning the nineteen thousand two hundred eighty US dollars owed to Samuel Johnson, which includes his benefit.

The Court’s documents state that the dismissal of Samuel Johnson by the current management of the NTAL is considered wrongful, due to their refusal to accord him due process as enshrined in Section 14.4 2(b) of the Decent Work Act of 2025.

It provides that in all cases of termination, an employer shall implement a fair internal procedure before termination, which is also guided by the Supreme Court of Liberia.

The Court, in its final ruling, states that the ruling of the Hearing Officer is hereby affirmed and confirmed, with the modification that the Respondent be paid the amount owed him.
