Sinoe County Authorities Describe Growing Wave of Illegal Mining Serious Threat….

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Local authorities in Sinoe County have described the growing wave of illegal mining activities across the county as alarming and a serious threat to development.

The County Superintendent Alexander Slewion said Sinoe is being deprived of needed revenue due to unauthorized and unregulated mining activities taking place in several areas.

According to Superintendent Slewion, the magnitude of the problem requires a coordinated approach across government to effectively address the situation and protect the county’s resources.

He warned that if left unchecked, illegal mining activities could place the county on a dangerous path, leading to environmental degradation and the continued exploitation of resources.

Speaking to ELBC Monday, Superintendent Slewion disclosed that he plans to engage officials of the Ministry of Mines and Energy to strengthen collaboration and identify practical measures to curb illegal mining across Sinoe.
