MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Executive Director of the Office for the Establishment of the War and Economic Crimes Court for Liberia, Jallah Barbu, has emphasized the importance of his ten-day study visit to Rwanda.

Cllr. Barbu says,” The visit was aimed at learning from Rwanda’s experience in reconciliation, accountability, and post-conflict recovery following the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi”.

According to a release, during the visit, Cllr. Barbu engaged institutions and victims’ organizations involved in transitional justice, reconciliation, victim support, and national healing.

The release quotes Cllr. Barbu as saying the experience gained will help Liberia establish a credible, inclusive, and victim-centered War and Economic Crimes Court.

He emphasized that the voices of victims and survivors must remain central to Liberia’s transitional justice process.

The OWECC-L Executive Director also met with Liberian students in Rwanda and encouraged them to become ambassadors of peace, accountability, and good governance.

Cllr. Jallah Barbu says,” International cooperation and lessons from Rwanda will be important as Liberia moves toward the operationalization of the War and Economic Crimes Court.
