MONROVIA, LIBERIA-A Commissioner at the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA), Patrick Honnah, has reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to expanding digital access and strengthening Liberia’s telecommunications sector.

According to him, LTA is implementing reforms to promote cybersecurity, improve connectivity, protect consumers, and create an investment-friendly environment for the growth of information and communication technology services.

He disclosed that the LTA is reviewing a World Bank-supported report aimed at reducing the cost of telecommunications services.

Speaking at the Liberia Technology Summit 2026 on Tuesday, July 21, 3026, Commissioner Honnah said,” The review will help improve competition and make communication services more affordable for Liberians”.

The Commissioner also highlighted ongoing initiatives, including the School Connect Program, which is providing internet access to public high schools, and partnerships with the Central Bank of Liberia and the National Identification Registry to expand digital financial services and digital identity.

He reaffirmed the LTA’s commitment to supporting Liberia’s digital transformation and economic growth.

For his part, Posts and Telecommunications Minister Sekou Kromah said:” The government is making significant progress in advancing Liberia’s digital transformation under President Joseph Boakai’s leadership”.

Minister Kromah highlighted the ministry’s five-year strategic plan, “Digital Liberia: Equity, Sovereignty, Innovation for a Connected Future,“ saying it is focused on building a country that owns and manages its digital infrastructure.

The minister disclosed that the government has begun rolling out a national digital postal address system across all fifteen counties.

Minister Kromah said:” The initiative will improve emergency response, logistics, financial services, and public service delivery nationwide”.

He also announced plans to strengthen Liberia’s internet infrastructure through a second subsea cable, expanded fiber-optic connectivity, and the establishment of a national data center to improve digital security and protect government data.

Minister Kromah thanked the President, development partners, the Liberia Telecommunications Authority, UNDP, the World Bank, and private sector partners for supporting Liberia’s digital agenda.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building a secure, connected, and innovation-driven digital economy.

Also speaking, Senior Political Advisor to President Joseph Boakai, MacDella Cooper, has described technology and innovation as essential to Liberia’s development.

She welcomed government officials, international partners, entrepreneurs, students, and innovators, adding that collaboration is key to creating opportunities for all Liberians through technology.

Madam Cooper said:” The Summit demonstrates Liberia’s commitment to digital transformation, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and entrepreneurship as key drivers of economic growth and national development”.

She praised President Boakai’s commitment to innovation and digital inclusion, noting that his administration is working to build a modern, connected, and globally competitive Liberia.

The Senior Political Advisor thanked development partners, the private sector, academia, and young innovators for supporting the country’s digital agenda.

Madam Cooper encouraged participants to use the summit to develop bold ideas, strengthen partnerships, and find lasting solutions for Liberia’s digital future. She also thanked the event’s sponsors and organizers before wishing God’s blessings upon Liberia.

At the same time, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative in Liberia, Aliou Mamadou Dia, has called for increased investment in technology, innovation, and digital skills to secure Liberia’s long-term economic growth.

Dia said: “The Summit has become an important platform for national dialogue on innovation, entrepreneurship, and digital transformation”.

He reaffirmed UNDP’s commitment to supporting Liberia’s digital agenda through strategic partnerships with the government and the private sector.

Dia described Liberia’s youths as the country’s greatest resource, stressing that investments in artificial intelligence, coding, cybersecurity, robotics, and entrepreneurship are essential for preparing the next generation for the global economy.

The UNDP Resident Representative urged Liberia to prioritize digital infrastructure, innovation, and technology-driven solutions to improve public services, create jobs, and strengthen economic competitiveness.

He also emphasized the need for strong collaboration among government, universities, investors, and the private sector.

However, Dia praised President Joseph Boakai for establishing the Office of Technology, Digitalization and Innovation through Executive Order No. 163, describing it as a bold step toward accelerating Liberia’s digital transformation.

He reaffirmed UNDP’s commitment to partnering with the government to build a resilient, innovation-driven, and digitally empowered Liberia.

 Meanwhile, the President of the University of Liberia, Dr. Layli Maparyan, has called for greater investment in digital education and innovation, describing universities as key to Liberia’s digital transformation.

Dr. Maparyan said:” Technology should create opportunities for all Liberians, including students, entrepreneurs, farmers, healthcare workers, and public servants”.

She cited Ethiopia’s digital transformation as a model for Liberia, noting that universities there have helped develop digital skills, artificial intelligence, and entrepreneurship.

However, she urged Liberia to adopt similar approaches.

The University of Liberia President said higher education institutions should expand programs in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, robotics, and data science while aligning academic training with industry needs.

Dr. Layli Maparyan called for stronger partnerships among government, universities, development partners, and the private sector to equip young Liberians with digital skills and help build an innovation-driven economy.
