MONROVIA, LIBERIA- The Liberia National Red Cross Society (LNRCS) says it has completed cash and material assistance to 531 families affected by fire outbreaks and windstorms in six counties.
According to the Red Cross, the affected counties include Grand Cape Mount, River Cess, Margibi, Nimba, Lofa, and Montserrado, where 158 fire-affected families and 373 windstorm victims benefited from the support.
Addressing a news conference Wednesday in Monrovia, LNRCS Secretary General Gregory Blamoh said the assistance helped affected families access shelter, food, and other essential needs.
SG Blamoh disclosed that the organization also supported reconstruction efforts in River Cess County while providing repairs and livelihood support to vulnerable households.
He further noted that the Red Cross has now shifted its focus to flooding in Monrovia and other flood-prone areas following an assessment that identified damaged homes and unsafe water sources, among others.
Meanwhile, LNRCS is appealing for more support from the government, partners, and the public to strengthen its flood response efforts.
