MONROVIA, LIBERIA-A high-powered International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) delegation is in Liberia on a five-day assessment to advance food production in the Country.

The International Atomic Energy Agency is a global organization that collaborates with partners, including the Food and Agriculture Organization, to utilize nuclear science in agriculture, improving crop varieties through radiation-induced mutation breeding.

According to IAEA’s Head of Technical Cooperation for Africa, Abdou Ndiath, the delegation will visit key areas in Liberia, including the Central Agricultural Research Institute (CARI), as part of the assessment.

In an ELBC interview on Monday in Congo Town, Mr. Ndiath noted that the goal of the assessment is to support the Liberian Government’s agricultural agenda where necessary.

The International Atomic Energy Agency’s Head of Technical Cooperation for Africa named capacity building as a key area the Agency will provide support to the Ministry of Agriculture.

He praised the Liberian Government for its new agriculture agenda while urging full implementation of the policy for the advancement of the Country.

Meanwhile, Agriculture Minister Dr. Alexander Nuetah re-emphasized the Liberian government’s determination to accrue more opportunities for food production in Liberia.

According to Minister Nuetah, the International Atomic Energy Agency’s five-day assessment in the Country is part of the government’s commitment to advance food production in the Country.

The Agriculture Minister extended sincere gratitude to the International Atomic Energy Agency for its continued support to the Government and people of Liberia, highlighting IAEA’s financial and technical support to the Ministry.

He urged technicians at the Ministry of Agriculture to cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency’s delegation to identify areas in the Country’s agriculture sector that need improvement.

Minister Nuetah believes the International Atomic Energy Agency’s ongoing assessment in Liberia is a break of a new dawn for the Country’s agricultural journey.
