Gov. of Liberia Reaffirms Commitment to Establishing Modern Competition, Consumer Protection Framework

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia has reaffirmed its commitment to establishing a modern competition and consumer protection framework aimed at promoting fair business practices, protecting consumers, and strengthening the country’s economy.

Speaking at the opening of a three-day National Information and Awareness Seminar on Competition Law and Policy in Monrovia on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, Deputy Minister for Commerce and Trade Services, Wilmot Reeves, said the government is reviewing the country’s competition law, while working to build institutional capacity for effective enforcement.

The Chairperson of the ECOWAS Regional Competition Authority (ERCA), Juliette Anokye, praised Liberia’s progress, describing competitive markets as essential to economic transformation, regional integration and the achievement of ECOWAS’ Vision 2050.

Anokye further reaffirmed ERCA’s commitment to supporting Liberia’s reforms, while encouraging government institutions, regulators, businesses, consumer groups and the media to work together to foster fair competition.

The Deputy Head of Office of the ECOWAS National Office in Liberia, Amos, further stated that the initiative reflects share commitment to building an economy that protects and promotes innovation, consumer entrepreneurship, and supports sustainable development.
