FREETOWN, SIERRA LEONE-President Joseph Boakai has called for stronger regional unity and practical action to address the growing challenges facing West Africa.
Speaking at the 69th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, the Liberian Leader said,” The region is at a defining moment, facing security threats, democratic setbacks, economic pressures, climate change, and rising expectations from young people”.
He stressed that ECOWAS must move beyond declarations to delivering tangible benefits for its citizens.
President Boakai congratulated President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone on the successful completion of his tenure on the ECOWAS Authority, praising his leadership and commitment to regional peace and cooperation.
He also paid tribute to the outgoing President of the ECOWAS Commission for his distinguished service, including the incoming Commission Vice President from Nigeria.
The Liberian Leader said Liberia looks forward to working closely with the new team to strengthen regional integration.
Meanwhile, President Boakai has reaffirmed Liberia’s commitment to democracy, constitutional governance, conflict resolution, and sustainable development.
He welcomed the progress being made toward resolving the border issue with neighboring Guinea through dialogue and cooperation.
He expressed optimism that ongoing efforts, supported by the ECOWAS Commission, will lead to a peaceful and mutually acceptable settlement.
President Boakai also thanked Member States for their confidence in Liberia through the appointment of qualified Liberians to key ECOWAS institutions.
The Liberian Chief Executive urged West African leaders to remain committed to the founding vision of ECOWAS, built on solidarity, shared prosperity, and collective security.
At the same time, President Joseph Boakai also joined his colleagues in condemning attacks on the sovereignty of Iran, while calling for a stronger, more integrated, and peaceful West Africa that future generations can inherit with pride.
