MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The National Elections Commission (NEC) says it has taken note of a media report captioned: Court Reportedly Prepares NEC’s Eviction as CDC Expresses Interest in Property.
The Commission clarified that the report contains claims and conclusions that are speculative, misleading, and do not accurately reflect the current legal status of the matter.
In a statement, NEC emphasized that, as an institution of government, all legal proceedings relating to its headquarters are being handled by the government through the Justice Ministry and other appropriate state institutions.
The statement further added that the Commission is aware that litigation concerning the property occupied by its headquarters remains the subject of judicial proceedings.
However, NEC officials say any suggestion that the NEC is facing an imminent eviction is premature and risks creating unnecessary public concern and anxiety.
