MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Bishop of the Lutheran Church in Liberia, Rev. Dr. Victor Padmore, has announced intensified efforts to reopen Phebe Hospital.
Addressing a news conference in Monrovia on Saturday, July 11, 2026, Dr. Padmore said the Church’s Executive Council convened an emergency meeting after the hospital closed following a “Go Slow” action by members of the Phebe Hospital Employees Association.
He disclosed that Medical Director and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Minie Sankawulu Ricks has agreed to proceed on a one-month leave pending reviews of investigative reports.
The bishop expressed concern over the transfer of critically ill patients and healthcare workers, urging the Government to reopen the hospital without further delay.
Dr. Padmore acknowledged Senator Prince K. Moye, Bong County Superintendent Lolia Norris, the Board of Trustees, and other stakeholders supporting peaceful resolution efforts.
He reaffirmed the Lutheran Church’s commitment to resolving the crisis through dialogue, transparency, and due process while urging responsible and balanced media reporting.
