NIMBA COUNTY, LIBERIA-Stakeholders in Liberia’s Agro Sector have embarked on a two-day conference on strengthening Cooperatives through clustering.
The program, currently taking place at a local Hotel in Ganta, Nimba County, has received the government’s unwavering commitment to supporting cooperatives through the Cooperative Development Agency (CDA).
The commitment was made in an opening statement delivered on behalf of the Liberian Government by Agriculture Minister, Dr. Alexander Neuter.
According to Dr. Neuter, President Boakai believes Agriculture can only be developed through cooperatives; as such, the government is working out modalities for the establishment of a bank that will exclusively cater to the financial needs of farmers across the country.
Gracing the occasion are Agriculture Minister, Dr, Alexander Neuter, the Director General of LACRA, and development partners, among others.
Meanwhile, Professor Moses Zinnah of the University of Liberia is expected to deliver the Keynote Address tomorrow, Friday, in observance of this year’s International Cooperative Day (ICD).
At the same time, the Registrar General of the Cooperative Development Agency (CDA), Lworpu Kandakai, is admonishing delegates at the conference to make frank and practical inputs in their deliberations.
Madam Kandakai also encouraged the participants to proffer recommendations while discussing the numerous challenges confronting Cooperatives in Liberia.
The Cooperative Development Agency is the arm of government clothed with the authority to monitor, regulate, and support cooperatives in Liberia to boost food security.
The Entity is hugely challenged by the setbacks resulting from the civil unrest, which require urgent support for the implementation of its mandate.
