MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Montserrado County District Three Representative, Sumo Mulbah, is proposing the establishment of weighing and scale centers at major ports to determine the quantity of minerals leaving the country.
Representative Mulbah said, “The centers will strengthen the government’s ability to track, monitor, and verify mineral exports to ensure Liberia fully benefits from its natural resources”.
He noted that the country currently lacks a reliable system to accurately measure both the quality and quantity of minerals leaving its borders, creating opportunities for revenue losses and exploitation.
Representative Mulbah said each scale center will be staffed by government representatives responsible for monitoring mineral exports and ensuring greater transparency and accountability in the Mining Sector.
According to him, the initiative will enhance oversight, improve revenue collection, and safeguard Liberia’s mineral wealth for the benefit of its citizens.
