MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Director General of the Liberia National Fire Service has described human security as a people-centered approach that prioritizes protecting individuals from persistent threats.
Speaking at a security sector reform conference, Director Warsuwah Barvoul stressed that security should focus not only on protecting national borders, but also safeguarding lives, dignity, and livelihoods of citizens.
Director Barvoul highlighted community safety risks, disaster risk reduction, and financial and organized crime as crucial to achieving safer and more resilient urban communities.
The Fire Service boss further urged policymakers and development partners to work together in addressing the interconnected challenges facing Liberia’s cities.
The Human Security and Urban Safety conference was organized by the Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance in collaboration with the Liberia National Law Enforcement Association (LINLEA).
