Liberian Senate Confirms Weedor Chairman of Nat’l Elections Commission

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberian Senate has confirmed Jonathan Weedor as Chairman of the National Elections Commission (NEC).

The confirmation followed a recommendation on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, from the Senate Committee on Autonomous Agency, which stated that Weedor possesses the necessary qualifications to hold the position.

According to the Committee’s report, Weedor should be confirmed based on his experience, competence, and understanding of electoral processes.

The Senate’s decision paves the way for Weedor to officially replace Madam Davidetta Brown-Lansanah, who recently resigned from the post.

During his confirmation hearing, Jonathan Weedor vowed to build a Commission that earns and sustains the trust of Liberians through transparency and accountability.
