MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The National Identification Registry (NIR) has dismissed reports that Liberia has outsourced its biometric identity system to the Austrian firm OSD, calling the claim false and misleading.
The clarification comes as the Registry explains that the arrangement is a technical partnership aimed at strengthening the national identity system.
Addressing a news conference Tuesday, May 2, 2026, in Monrovia, NIR Communication Director, Daniel Sargbe, said:” The partnership does not transfer ownership or control of the system”.
Director Sargbe further noted that the process followed all Public Procurement and Concessions Commission requirements, and biometric data remains the government’s property.
According to him, OSD will only provide technical support to improve system efficiency and enrollment capacity.
The National Identification Registry has urged the public to rely only on official communication channels and disregard misinformation.
