Nat’l Identification Registry Dismisses Reports of Outsourcing Its Biometric Identity System to Austrian Firm

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The National Identification Registry (NIR) has dismissed reports that Liberia has outsourced its biometric identity system to the Austrian firm OSD, calling the claim false and misleading.

‎‎The clarification comes as the Registry explains that the arrangement is a technical partnership aimed at strengthening the national identity system.

‎‎Addressing a news conference Tuesday, May 2, 2026, in Monrovia, NIR Communication Director, Daniel Sargbe, said:” The partnership does not transfer ownership or control of the system”.

‎‎Director Sargbe further noted that the process followed all Public Procurement and Concessions Commission requirements, and biometric data remains the government’s property.

‎‎According to him, OSD will only provide technical support to improve system efficiency and enrollment capacity.

‎‎The National Identification Registry has urged the public to rely only on official communication channels and disregard misinformation.
