House Speaker Koon Warns Lawmakers at House of Rep…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-House Speaker Richard Koon has warned members of the House of Representatives that continued absenteeism could result in salary deductions.

Speaker Koon says,” The move is necessary to ensure lawmakers appreciate the responsibilities and importance of the offices they occupy”.

He made the statement while speaking to reporters shortly after a scheduled legislative session was suspended due to the lack of a quorum.

Several lawmakers on Tuesday, May 2, 2026, failed to attend the sitting, making it impossible for the House to conduct official business.

Under House rules, at least 37 members, a simple majority, must be present for proceedings to take place.
