MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The John F. Kennedy Medical Center has suspended a registered nurse assigned at the E. S. Grant Mental Health Hospital on Duport Road, Monrovia.
Paola Bedell’s suspension followed the circulation of an audio message in which she alleged that patients with Ebola-like symptoms had been admitted, and that authorities were concealing the cases from the public.
Bedell was served with a formal suspension notice effective immediately, pending the outcome of an investigation into her conduct.
According to the letter addressed to her, the suspension stems from an audio recording she shared in a WhatsApp group chat.
In the message, she stated that patients displaying symptoms suggestive of Ebola virus disease had recently returned from a church conference in Uganda.
Paola further alleged that the John F. Kennedy Medical Center, in coordination with the Ministry of Health, was attempting to hide these cases from the public.
The medical center emphasized that the suspension is not a presumption of guilt, but a necessary step to allow for a thorough and impartial investigation.
