Denied LFA Presidential Aspirant Sekou Keita says he’s leaving no stone unturn in his quest to get on the ballot paper to contest against Mustaphai I. Raji.
Sekou Keita who last week filed an appeal to the LFA Grievance committee seems to be in total disagreement with the local FA appeal body, which upheld the decision of the LFA Independent Election Committee, disqualifying from contesting.
Mr. Keita in a statement issued Monday said with support from the Beach Soccer Association of Liberia and his legal team, he can confirm that formal complaints, petitions, and accompanying evidentiary documents have been officially submitted to the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and the Secretary General of the LFA relating to the ongoing Liberia Football Association (LFA) electoral process.
According to the Former IE President and player, his submissions seek urgent review and intervention concerning serious governance, electoral, and democratic representation issues affecting the rights and independence of the Beach Soccer Association as a recognized statutory member of the LFA under Article 18 of the LFA Statutes supported by others, including Article 58.
The statement said, “Central to the complaints is the challenge to the denial and disqualification of Mr. Keita’s presidential candidacy despite the Elections Committee having acknowledged that he satisfied the substantive eligibility requirements under the governing statutes”.
Mr. Keita said in his statement that the petition and compliant further seek the protection of the rights of the Beach Soccer Association and its constituent clubs to independently manage their affairs, appoint their representatives, and participate freely and democratically in the governance structures of Liberian football without third-party interference.
Keita’s statement added that “The filing further request that the relevant football authorities review and nullify the decisions which denied and disqualified Mr. Keita’s nomination and candidacy, and restore the democratic and statutory rights of the Beach Soccer Association within the electoral process.
Mr. Keita and the Beach Soccer Association reaffirm their commitment to respecting and exhausting all recognized football governance and dispute resolution mechanisms in a peaceful, professional, and statute-guided manner”.
Sekou Keita was denied and disqualified from contesting the LFA Presidency by the Football electoral body which claims that the aspirant didn’t get the right nomination.
This Keita has strongly rejected, saying his nomination came from the rightful statutory member of the LFA, the Beach Soccer Association.
He said “The matter remains one of governance, fairness, democratic participation, and the protection of the statutory rights of recognized football stakeholders within Liberia”.
Mr. Keita who was recently appointed as a Member of the Media and Marketing Committee of the African Beach Soccer Union (ABSU), the continental body responsible for the growth, promotion, and development of beach soccer across Africa, said his confidence that “the right things will be done”.
Keita and Kouh were the only two individuals among 29 applicants disqualified from contesting the LFA election by the LFA Independent Election Committee.
The delayed LFA Election is rescheduled for this Friday May 15, 2026 in Paynesville. It is not clear how fast Keita will get a redress to his complaints and petitions as the Liberia Football Association (LFA) and delegates seem to be well prepared for the elective congress.
