MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Public Works Ministry is set to begin the construction works on the Toe Town-Zwedru Road corridor in Grand Gedeh County.
It followed the signing of a 63-million U.S dollar contract with the Consolidated Contractors Offshore (SAL) and the Consolidated Engineering Trading Corporation.
The project, upon completion, will enhance the movement of goods and services and boost economic activities for citizens in that part of the country.
Public Works Ministry Program Manager for Infrastructure and Implementation, Emmanuel Becker, noted that the project is a joint initiative of the Government of Liberia and its partners.
Becker disclosed that the initiative, which is expected to last for thirty-six months, will expand trade and create job opportunities for the locals.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Public Works, Roland Giddings, says,” The signing ceremony demonstrates the government’s commitment to improving the lives of citizens through road connectivity”.
Minister Giddings said the project will further connect the capital to the hinterland and promote free movement of residents.
He believes the initiative, when completed, will end decades of neglect and restore the hopes of citizens in Grand Gedeh and other counties in the region.
Minister Giddings admonished the contracting firms to exercise professionalism in the implementation of the project, noting that the corridor is crucial to improving the lives of citizens.
The Public Works Minister, at the same time, reaffirmed President Joseph Boakai’s dedication to the rehabilitation and construction of major road corridors across the country.
