Pres. Boakai Receives Draft Legislation for War and Economic Crimes Court Establishment

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai has received the draft legislation for the establishment of the War and Economic Crimes Court later today in Monrovia.

The documents, according to our reporter, were delivered by the Executive Director of the Office of the War and Economic Crimes Court, Cllr. Jallah Barbu.

The two draft legislations, when debated upon and subsequently passed by the National Legislature, will pave the way for the establishment of the courts in Liberia.

Recently, President Boakai, through an Executive Order, renewed the mandate and functions of OWECC for an additional year.

With this renewed mandate, OWECC shall, among several functions, consult with international partners and funding agencies to secure resources for the establishment and operation of the courts.

The Executive Order also amplifies President Joseph Boakai’s administration’s fight against impunity and corruption, while also fulfilling its obligations under international treaties and conventions.
