MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Criminal Court ‘C’ is expected to entertain legal arguments this Friday, November 6, in connection with former Foreign Minister Dee-Maxwell Kemayah and a few others’ request for a new trial.
Judge Ousman Feika’s decision was communicated through a Notice of Assignment to lawyers of the parties involved to appear in Court for argument.
Convict Kemayah and others have since rejected the trial jurors’ verdict through a motion for a new trial.
Recently, the trial jurors at Criminal Court ‘C’ convicted defendants Dee Maxwell Kemayah, Varney Sirleaf, and others for stealing several bags of rice donated by the Saudi Government for disaster victims in Liberia.
In another judicial development, the Grievance and Ethics Committee of the Supreme Court is seeking the suspension of two Liberian lawyers for unethical conduct.
The Vice President for Legal Affairs at the University of Liberia, Cllr. Viama Blama and the former Minister of Justice, Cllr. Benedict Sannoh, were found guilty by the Grievance and Ethics Committee for unethical conduct.
They were accused by two separate complainants and subsequently investigated by the Committee before being found in violation of the Moral and Professional Ethics of Lawyers.
The Committee, headed by Cllr. Cyril Jones, on October 28, 2026, recommended that Cllr. Blama be suspended from legal practice for three months and Cllr. Sannoh for six months.
Both Counsellors have rejected the Grievance and Ethics Committee’s decision by announcing an appeal to the Supreme Court sitting in its October Term with the intent of overturning the Committee’s decision.
