MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening transparency, accountability, and public trust in the digital space, as it works to address growing concerns around misinformation and digital governance.
Speaking at the Internet Governance Forum (IGF), Acting Information Minister Johnny Tarkpah described the gathering as timely, noting that digital transformation is no longer optional but essential to Liberia’s development.
He emphasized that while digital platforms have enhanced access to information and citizen engagement, they have also introduced challenges such as misinformation, disinformation, and declining public trust in institutions.
Minister Tarkpah said,” The government plans to strengthen fact-based communication systems, promote timely dissemination of accurate information, and collaborate with media institutions and digital platforms to enhance verification and accountability”.
Meanwhile, IGF Board member Sangay Walapaye stressed the need for students and young people to engage in positive spaces on the internet.
She said the internet is a powerful tool that, when used correctly, can have a positive impact on Liberia for the better.
