Firestone-Liberia Redundants Eleven Workers

LOWER MARGIBI COUNTY, LIBERIA-Tension is said to be brewing at the Firestone Rubber Plantation in Harbel, Lower Margibi County.

It followed the abrupt redundancy of eleven workers, including the Chairman of the Workers Union, Winston Ford, by the Firestone Management on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.

According to our correspondent, the Firestone Management did not give any clear reason for the action, attributing the move to what it only termed as a restructuring process.

The Firestone Agriculture Workers Union of Liberia is said to be upset about the company’s action, and has since written its parent body, the National Timber Wood and Allied Workers Union of Liberia.

Our Correspondent said the action by the Firestone Management also violated the Collective Bargaining Agreement, which gave some protection to the Union leaders, especially the workplace representative, Winston Ford, who was affected.
