MONROVIA, LIBERIA-A Writ of Subpoena has been issued for more officials of the Government by Criminal Court ‘C’ to provide evidence in the opening corruption case involving former Finance Minister Samuel Tweah and four others.
Judge Ousman Feika’s April correspondent was a result of a request made by the State Prosecutor as a means of establishing a prima facie case against the indictees.
Prima facie is a means of proving a matter beyond a reasonable doubt against people accused of a crime.
Those subpoenas are for Theophilus Larmie of the Central Bank of Liberia and Tenneh Brunson of the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning.
They are to appear in Court on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at 9 am.
In a related development, Defense Lawyers have finally rested with State Prosecutors’ first witness on the cross-examination after three weeks of inquiry.
Defense Lawyers’ notice to the Court regarding the State’s first witness, Baba Mohamed Boakai, will allow the State to parade the second witness on Tuesday or Wednesday, April 13 or 14, to provide more evidence on their behalf.
Defendants Tweah and four others are facing criminal prosecution for multiple offenses, ranging from money laundering, economic sabotage, and theft, among others.
They were indicted for allegedly stealing over six million U.S dollars and one billion Liberian dollars, but they claimed that the money was used for national security.
They have since pleaded “Not guilty” to their criminal indictment in 2025.
The seven individuals were indicted by the Grand Jury of Montserrado County based on evidence provided by the Assets Recovery and Property Retrieval Task Force.
After sitting several hours in the Sheriff’s office at Criminal Court ‘C’, their lawyer, Cllr. Abraham Sillah proffered a valid criminal appearance bond, thereby preventing their detention at the Monrovia Central Prison.
Unconfirmed reports say they are expected in court during the May Term to face their accusers, the Asset Recovery, in connection with the charges contained in the indictment.
