Wotala Town Residents in Lofa County Decry Lack of Safe Drinking Water

LOFA COUNTY, LIBERIAInhabitants of Wotala Town, Lofa County have complained of the lack of safe drinking water, following the damaged of the town’s only hand pump.

The damaged hand pump, constructed by an NGO, the International Rescue Committee, more than a decade ago, has served as the only source of safe drinking water for the residents.

Our correspondent said that, due to the lack of a hand pump, residents are sourcing water from nearby creeks and rivers.

An Elder of the Town, Joseph Siaffa, said the situation has led to an increase in communicable diseases among the residents, especially children.

Meanwhile, the residents have launched an appeal

to humanitarian organizations, the County’s Legislative Caucus, and philanthropists for urgent assistance.
