Education Ministry, EU, Break Ground for New T-VET Training Facility in Bomi County

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Ministry of Education (MOE), in collaboration with the EU, has broken ground for the construction of a new T-VET Training Facility in Bomi County.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place on Friday, November 28, 2025, at the C.H. Dewey Central High School in Tubmanburg.

Speaking during the program, Deputy Education Minister for Instruction, Amos Fully, emphasized the importance of qualification and hard work.

The minister fully praised young people who are already making strides, and encouraged others to emulate.

He urged students to see vocational skills as a pathway to independence and prosperity.

The Deputy Minister also highlighted that the facility will provide opportunities for youth, reducing reliance on imported skills and fostering local entrepreneurship.

In a related development, the EU’s Education Project Officer, Lorpu Scott, emphasized the EU’s commitment to reshaping Liberia’s education landscape.

Madam Scott highlighted that the initiative, currently underway, is funded by the EU and implemented by UNIDO, through the Youth Rising Project.

According to her, the project goes beyond constructing buildings. It is designed to open doors for young people to pursue their dreams by providing modern, safe, and inspiring learning environments.

She explained that this effort is part of a broader plan to extend similar interventions to eight additional counties, ensuring that more schools and youth across Liberia benefit from the program.

Scott noted that the EU’s investment reflects a strong belief in the potential of Liberia’s youth and the importance of preparing them for the job market.

She underscored the value of collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, stressing that continuous partnership is essential to guarantee the sustainability of the project

Madam Lorpu Scott reaffirmed that the EU’s involvement represents a long-term commitment, one focused on building skills, empowering young people, and fostering stability across the country

Meanwhile, the Industrial Development Officer and Program Manager, Chie Matsumoto, disclosed a comprehensive initiative to expand access to high-quality and Training (TVET) programs in Bomi County.

Madam Matsumoto said,” The project is designed to benefit boys, girls, and vulnerable groups by providing modern facilities and inclusive learning opportunities”.

According to her, the plan includes the construction of a new workshop block that will house three fully equipped trade workshops, one for welding and fabrication, another for automotive mechanics, and a third for electricity.

To ensure inclusivity, the facility will feature accessible bathroom amenities for male and female students, as well as persons with disabilities.

In addition to new construction, two existing classroom blocks will be rehabilitated and outfitted with ICT equipment to support both classroom instruction and laboratory training, among others.

She said,” Such effort is made possible through the support of the EU and in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, under the Youth Rising Project.

The construction and rehabilitation works are expected to be completed by June 2026, after which classrooms and workshops will be equipped with industry-standard tools.
