Liberia’s Criminal Court “A” Denies Defense Team’s Motion to Suppress in Arson Case…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Criminal Court “A” on Wednesday denied the Defense Team’s motion to suppress in the arson case involving former Speaker Fonati Koffa and fourteen others.

Judge Roosevelt Willie’s denial was based on medical reports from the AMI Expeditionary Medical Center that all of the defendants denied any form of torture and sodomy, as earlier claimed by.

The decision to be tested for torture and sodomy was a result of Koffa’s legal team’s submission to the court that their clients were tortured and sodomized while in the custody of the National Security Agency (NSA), and were being investigated.

Speaking to reporters minutes after the ruling, the Solicitor General of Liberia, Cllr. Augustine Fayiah confirmed that the Prosecuting Team has, in its possession, sufficient evidence to convict the defendants, following the resumption of the case on Friday.

But former Speaker Cllr. Fonati Koffa refuted the prosecution’s evidence and referred to it as mere recordings and a bunch of call logs.

The former Speaker is among fourteen others on trial for allegedly burning the Capitol on December 18, 2024.

Meanwhile, Judge Roosevelt Willie has set Friday, September 26, as the day of trial at 10am prompt through a notice of assignment to the parties.
