Gov. of Liberia Provides Updates on Ongoing Electrification Projects across Liberia

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Government has provided updates on the ongoing electrification projects across the Country, including the construction of the 20megawatt solar farm project that was launched last year.

Information Minister, Jerolinmek Piah, making the disclosure, said,” The steel erection and the solar panel installation are currently ongoing, in keeping with the project time frame and expected to be dedicated in November of this year”.

Minister Piah also revealed that the repairs of turbine one, one of the four turbines installed at the Mount Coffee Hydro Power Plant, have been out of service since July 2021, due to damage, and it is now undergoing repair.

The information minister added that the turbine is expected to be restored in May 2026, with a generation capacity of 22 megawatts that will provide electricity to over eighty communities.

Minister Piah noted that the project is currently about 80 percent complete, with customer metering ongoing, and street lights have already been connected along major community roads in the areas mentioned.

The World Bank-funded project that focuses on rural electricity expansion is expected to close by December 2025, after which Phase two will commence to connect additional communities.
