Pres. Boakai Recognizes Japanese Gov.’s Unremitting Support to Liberia

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai has recognized the continuous support of the Japanese Government towards Liberia’s development, particularly in infrastructure, food security, health, and capacity building.

An Executive Mansion release said President Boakai made the communication during a bilateral meeting with Japanese Prime Minister, Shigeru Ishiba, ahead of Tokyo International Conference on African Development.

The release said the meeting provided the opportunity for both leaders to reaffirm the strong bonds of friendship and cooperation that have existed between Liberia and Japan for more than six decades.

President Boakai recalled Japan’s critical assistance during the Ebola and COVID-19 crises, the construction of roads, and provision of food aid to support Liberia’s socio-economic stability, during the meeting.

The Liberian Leader emphasized the Liberian government’s readiness to deepen collaboration with Japan in key sectors, such as science, technology, agriculture, and investment promotion.

Meanwhile, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba highlighted key sectors for possible investment in Liberia.

Prime Minister Ishiba expressed key interest in Liberia’s Tourism Sector, particularly in the protection and promotion of its unique biodiversity.

The Japanese Prime Minister then described Liberia’s natural heritage as a valuable symbol which, when properly used, can attract investors to the country.

He reaffirmed the Japanese Government’s determination to fully cooperate with Liberia in exploring sustainable tourism and environmental conservation initiatives.

Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba also conveyed best wishes to the government and people of Liberia for being elected as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.
