NGO Coalition of Liberia Opposes Voluntary Partnership Agreement Cancellation

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The NGO Coalition of Liberia has opposed the cancellation of the Voluntary Partnership Agreement (VPA) between the Liberian Government and the EU.

The VPA is an agreement aimed at improving forest governance, combating illegal logging, and promoting sustainable forest management.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, in Paynesville City, the Chairman of the management team of the NGO Coalition, Dayugar Johnson, said,” The VPA has provided Liberia with a robust framework for multi-stakeholders’ participation and transparency”.

Chairman Johnson also noted that the VPA has provided protection of community rights, sustainable forest governance, and promoted accountability and legality assurance in the Forest Sector.

The Chairman said,” If the VPA is replaced with the forest partnership as being speculated, it should include multi-stakeholders’ governance, capacity development, robust accountability, transparency, legal and policy coherence”.
