Edu. Minister Jallah Calls for Stronger Civic Education for Responsible Citizenship Promotion

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Education Minister Dr. Jarso Jallah has called for stronger civic education to promote responsible citizenship, unity, and democracy in Liberia.

Dr. Jallah made the call on Friday, August 28, 2026, while serving as guest speaker at Stella Maris Polytechnic University’s 27th Commencement Convocation in Monrovia.

She said:” Civic Education must equip citizens with knowledge of constitutional rights, responsibilities, democratic values and governance processes”.

The education minister urged schools, communities, civil society organizations, religious leaders and media institutions to strengthen civic education nationwide.

Dr. Jallah said:” Informed citizens can resist misinformation, safeguard democracy, hold leaders accountable and contribute meaningfully to Liberia’s national development”.

The Archbishop of Monrovia and Chancellor of Stella Maris Polytechnic University, Most Rev. Dr. Gabriel Blamo Jubwe, has urged graduates of Stella Maris to lead with integrity, character and service.

Speaking at the University’s 27th Commencement Convocation of the institution, Archbishop Jubwe said education without values can become dangerous, while knowledge without integrity can be misused.

He celebrated the 469 graduating women, describing their increasing participation in education as a powerful message about Liberia’s changing leadership landscape.

Archbishop Jubwe challenged the 274 graduating men to understand true leadership as service and responsibility rather than domination, privilege or personal advancement.

He urged all graduates to use their education and achievements to serve Liberia, create opportunities for others and advance the common good.
