Presiding Justice in Chambers Places Stay Order on Cllr. Karngar’s Recommendations to Pres. Boakai

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The presiding Justice in Chambers of the Supreme Court of Liberia, Justice Ceaineh Clinton Johnson, has placed a stay order on the Chairperson of the Ombudsman, Cllr. Finley, Karngar, following his recommendations to President Joseph Boakai to dismiss twenty-six top officials of government.

Justice Ceaineh Clinton Johnson, over the weekend, issued the Alternative writ of Prohibition as prayed for by the twenty-six officials and forwarded the matter to the Full Bench of the Supreme Court, which is in line with its constitutional provision.

The officials recommended for dismissal by Cllr. Finley Karngar includes: Cllr. Cooper Kruah, Labour Minister, Rev. Luther Tarpeh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Port Authority, and Amos Tweh, Managing Director, Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC), among others.

Justice Clinton, through the Writ of Prohibition, requested the Chairperson of the Ombudsman, Cllr. Finley Karngar to appear on or before August 15, 2025, to respond to the petitioners’ application to show cause why their petition should be denied, consistent with Chapter 16, Section 16. 22 of the Civil Procedure Law of Liberia.

As you may recall, Cllr. Finally, Karngar recommended the dismissal of twenty-six top government officials for defiance and breach of Section 5, K (a) and B of the code of conduct, which prohibits government officials from political participation once appointed.
