MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Vice President Jeremiah Koung has called on both Liberians and international investors to consider beginning the construction of factories in Liberia to help address the nation’s unemployment challenges.
Speaking at the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Liberia Food Processing Factory in Gardnerville on Friday, July 4, 2025, Vice President Koung emphasized the importance of expanding industrial infrastructure to promote economic growth.
He urged investors and prominent local business owners to establish additional manufacturing facilities to support Liberia’s development goals.
VP Koung also highlighted that the proliferation of manufacturing plants would enable local entrepreneurs to grow and strengthen their businesses.
During the event, the Liberian Vice President commended the owners of the Liberia Food Processing Factory for their significant contributions to the country’s economy and expressed optimism about the future of industrial development in Liberia.
Meanwhile, representatives of the Liberia Food Processing Factory reiterated their commitment to producing approximately one thousand metric tons of finished products per month, primarily targeting the domestic market.
Their product line-up included toothpaste, mega cubes, cooking salt, and other essential items.
At the same time, the Liberian Government has disclosed major strides under the “Light Up South-East Liberia” electrification program, funded by the European Union, through its 11th European Development Fund (EDF).
The government says recent weeks have seen remarkable progress in Greenville, three cities long deprived of reliable electricity access.
On June 16, 2025, citizens of Greenville City in Sinoe Couty, welcomed the offloading of 24 truckloads with monopoles delivered from Monrovia.
Excavation works are now ongoing in Murrayville Township, where a solar field is being developed.
Alongside this, the construction of a 2-megawatt mini hydro power plant has begun on the Sinoe River Rapids. Both projects are being funded by the EU.
According to a release issued recently, electricity generated from these renewable sources will be transmitted through a Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) substation.
The old Liberia Electricity Corporation substation in Greenville is expected to be renovated to now house the GIS substation as a new technology to ensure reliable, sustainable power delivery to thousands of residents in Greenville City, Sinoe County.
