RURAL MONTSERRADO COUNTY, LIBERIA-A week-long training to empower over 127 local farmers in Rural Montserrado County got underway on Monday at the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints in the 15 Gate Community, Montserrado County.

The partnership training is being conducted by the Kwakeh Multi-purpose Women Agriculture Cooperative, with support from the Latter-Day Saint Charities.

The partnership is to build the capacity of the local farmers in vegetable and rice production.

Speaking at the training’s opening, the Cooperative President, David Taigbalee, urged the participants to take serious initiative to improve their farming skills.

Madam Hawa Taigbalee said:” Make use of the training to ensure the food insecurity the nation and its people are faced with can be addressed.”

Meanwhile, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints–Liberia Missionary, Daron Haddock, says the Church will continue to help local farmers to make them productive.

Mr. Haddock said,” The Church’s support, through partnership, will enhance the local farmers’ skills to enable them to produce more yields.”

He said the Church is partnering with Kwakeh Multipurpose Women’s Agriculture Cooperative to make Liberia self-sufficient in food production.

Also speaking, the Kingsville District Agriculture Officer, Marie Kollie, lauded the Cooperative efforts in buttressing the mandate of the Agriculture Ministry by empowering local farmers.

Madam Kollie cautioned the participants to put into practice whatever skills they acquire to improve the country’s agriculture sector.
